A populist pro-Moscow party led by former Prime Minister Robert Fico has won the Slovak election, securing more votes than expected.
With nearly 100 percent of the votes counted, Fico's party, Direction - Social Democracy (Smer-SD), has taken the lead with approximately 28 percent of the vote.
Fico, known for his pro-Russian stance, had campaigned on a platform of social justice and economic populism. His victory is seen as a setback for the European Union and the West, as it strengthens Russia's influence in Central Europe.
