Solingen United: A Stand Against Extremism and Hate

Fighting for Democracy and Diversity in the Face of Adversity

A Community's Resounding Statement Against Division

On a crisp January day in 2024, the city of Solingen, Germany, witnessed an inspiring display of unity and resistance. Over 6,000 people gathered to voice their resounding condemnation of right-wing extremism, hate speech, and racism.

The event, organized by the "Bunt statt Braun" (Colorful Instead of Brown) alliance, featured eight powerful speakers who shared their experiences and emphasized the importance of standing together against forces that seek to divide communities.

The "Bunt statt Braun" alliance aims to make a bold statement: Solingen is not a place for hate or division. The movement was born in the aftermath of the tragic arson attack in 1993, where five young Turkish women were murdered by neo-Nazis.

Since then, Solingen has become a beacon of resilience and a symbol of hope. In the face of adversity, the community has come together time and time again to affirm its commitment to peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.

Saturday's gathering was a testament to Solingen's unwavering spirit. Approximately 1,500 people answered the alliance's call to action, marching through the city center in a show of defiance against all forms of hate.

The event served as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, unity and compassion can prevail. Solingen stands as an inspiration to communities around the world, demonstrating that the fight against extremism and hate is one that can and must be won.
